One of the most exciting parts of becoming a new homeowner is the hunt for the house of your dreams. One of the more stressful parts of the process can be the real estate closing date. Make sure that you have everything completed and that you are ready for the closing date before that date actually arrives. The last thing you want to do is to find out that the closing date has to be pushed out even further, especially if you are anxious to get moved into your new home. Do Your Final Walk Through
Even if everything was in perfect order when you first viewed the home, that might have been weeks ago. Things could have changed since then and you want to make sure that the exterior and interior of the home are just the way they were when you first saw it. This is especially important when you are purchasing a property from someone that is not local to it. For example, the seller might live in another state so they haven't been inside the home for a long time. What if someone broke into the home and caused damage after you first saw it? You want to know that everything is just as it should be before you get to the closing table.
Make Sure Your Mortgage Is Fully Approved
Make sure that the funding you are getting, such as a mortgage, is good to go. Have your real estate agent or attorney get all of the necessary documentation from the mortgage company showing that you are good to sign papers at the closing table. You can then start reviewing the closing documents that your attorney or agent will have received ahead of time for you to review. This gives you time to read through all of the fine print. Never sign anything that you have not read yourself or have had an attorney explain to you.
With those few tips in mind, you should find that the closing date will not have to get postponed. In fact, if you are able to get everything on your end done and all of the details straightened out, there is a small chance your real estate attorney or agent can get the closing date moved up sooner.
